Second MRSA outbreak in a nursing home; role for a super spreader or super sensitive resident
نویسندگان
چکیده
Introduction / objectives MRSA prevalence is low in nursing homes (NH) in the Netherlands. However, outbreaks in NH are usually larger than those occurring in hospitals. The national MRSA database shows that in the last three years 24% of the outbreaks occurred in NH. The NH under investigation experienced outbreaks in 2007 and 2010. Two residents and one health care worker (HCW) were involved in both outbreaks. One of these residents (R-Z) has diabetes and pressure ulcers, and was therefore not considered for eradication therapy. R-Z could have acted as a super spreader.

Clinical and Epidemiologic Characteristics of Spreaders of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus during the 2015 Outbreak in Korea
Nosocomial transmission is an important characteristic of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV) infection. Risk factors for transmission of MERS-CoV in healthcare settings are not well defined. During the Korean outbreak in 2015, 186 patients had laboratory-confirmed MERS-CoV infection. Those suspected as a source of viral transmission were categorized into the spreader groups...
متن کاملModeling the Spread of Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus in Nursing Homes for Elderly
Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is endemic in many hospital settings, including nursing homes. It is an important nosocomial pathogen that causes mortality and an economic burden to patients, hospitals, and the community. The epidemiology of the bacteria in nursing homes is both hospital- and community-like. Transmission occurs via hands of health care workers (HCWs) and dire...
متن کاملOutbreak of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus ST398 in a Dutch nursing home.
We describe an outbreak of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) ST398 in a nursing home in the Netherlands. Seven residents and 4 healthcare workers were identified with MRSA ST398, but 2 of the healthcare workers carried other strains. This study demonstrates that MRSA ST398 can spread in nursing homes.
متن کاملPrevalence and molecular epidemiology of meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus in nursing home residents in northern Germany.
Nursing home residents are a population at risk for carrying meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). To better guide infection control and healthcare network initiatives, we investigated the point prevalence and molecular epidemiology of MRSA colonisation among nursing home residents in Brunswick, northern Germany. Among the 32 participating nursing homes of the available 34 in the r...
متن کاملMaternal Exposure to Second-hand Smoke and Super Ovulati on Outcome for Assisted Reproduction
Background The effect of smoking cigarettes is followed by diverse effects on ovaries and developing follicles but the effect of passive smoking on ovarian function is unknown. On the other hand, the ovarian response to induction is a very important step in assisted reproduction. The aim of this study is to compare ovarian response in passive smokers and non-passive smokers in an assisted repro...
